Product Overview

This display module is based on the MAX7219 driver IC, a versatile chip designed to simplify the control of LED displays. It allows you to easily drive up to 8 digits on 7-segment displays (as shown in the module with two blocks of 4 digits), while using only 3 digital pins from your microcontroller.

The MAX7219 handles all the complex tasks internally, such as multiplexing, scanning, and current control, so the microcontroller only needs to send the data to be displayed. This greatly reduces the processing load and the number of I/O pins required.

This makes the module ideal for projects where you need to display numbers, clocks, counters, temperature readings, or even simple text animations. With its compact design and powerful driver chip, it eliminates the need for manual multiplexing and ensures a flicker-free, stable display.

Specifications

  • Wide compatibility – works with 5V and 3.3V microcontrollers (Arduino, STM32, ESP32, AVR, etc.).
  • Serial communication (SPI interface, 4 wires) – fast and easy connection.
  • Supports 8 digits of 7-segment LEDs, bar graph displays, or up to 64 individual LEDs.
  • Internal memory (8×8 static RAM) to store display data without constant refreshing.
  • Adjustable brightness through digital control.
  • Low-power shutdown mode when the display is not in use.
  • Cascade support – multiple modules can be daisy-chained to increase the number of digits.
  • Simple wiring – only 3 control pins are needed from the microcontroller.
