Product Overview
CRCibernetica CyberDrive: Dual Motor Driver for the BBC micro:bit
Get your micro:bit moving
CyberDrive is a compact two-motor driver board that lets a BBC micro:bit control DC motors with the moto:bit blocks you already use. No extra libraries, no new code to learn: drag in a motor block in MakeCode and your robot drives.
Plug-and-play compatibility
CyberDrive speaks the same I²C protocol as the popular moto:bit motor board, so existing lessons, classroom projects and MakeCode programs work unchanged. It uses only the micro:bit's I²C pins (SDA/P20, SCL/P19) and ground, so every other pin stays free for sensors, buttons and the LED display.
Smooth, precise speed control
Each motor has independent speed and direction control with 128 speed steps forward and 128 in reverse. The PWM runs at about 3.9 kHz, so motors respond smoothly from a crawl to full speed. Power comes from a Texas Instruments DRV8835 dual H-bridge, a reliable, efficient driver used across the robotics industry.
Built-in safety for the classroom
Motors run only when both conditions are met:
- the physical enable switch on the board is on, and
- the micro:bit program has sent the enable command.
Flip the switch and the robot stops, whatever the code is doing. That makes it a good fit for students testing their first programs on the desk.
Always know it's alive
A status LED flashes briefly every three seconds while the board is running, so you can confirm at a glance that it has power and is working.
Smart onboard controller
A RISC-V microcontroller on the board handles all the motor timing, so the micro:bit is free to run your program.
